The question of whether Vance was dead or not became more than academic when he found himself in a bathtub up to his chin in ice water like some forgotten cocktail garnish, a demonic woman standing over him, and no memory of how he got there.

I really enjoyed the first person voice of The Automatic Detective (2008) by A. Lee Martinez (and the narrator really helped). It's not often that you get a good first person detective SF novel with a wry delivery. It was also a great story of an AI character discovering themself. I have read it two times. I'll read it again.  (e)

I listened to an audio version Emperor Mollusk versus The Sinister Brain (2012) by A. Lee Martinez and found the narrator spot on for the monomaniacal first person narration of a world conquering alien who only wants to retire in peace. I was hooked on the first page.  (e)

I enjoyed Midnight Riot (2011) by Ben Aaronovitch more than I had expected to. Quite a bit more, in fact. These days, it's rare for me to find a fantasy novel that I like. The author seems to know his way around both London and the London police force. I will be reading the sequel.   (e)
